Music Minister

Kenny Day

I am a lifelong Southern Baptist, born and raised in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I trusted Christ as my Savior at age 10. From that day forward, I was forever changed. I grew up in church at FBC, Bixby, and then at FBC, Broken Arrow. From an early age, I knew that the Lord would one day use me in ministry. I led as a student in my high school youth group and youth choir, then led through teaching Sunday School for many years. I have also led through special music, choirs, volunteering, and more.
I met my wife, Jana, as students at OBU many years ago, but ultimately graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma. We then moved to Broken Arrow, where she taught 5th grade until our daughter, Emily, was born. We were then blessed for her to stay home with our children, as our son, Tyler, was born four years later. Our final two years in Broken Arrow, Jana returned to teaching 5th grade in our children’s elementary school. After moving to Shawnee, she taught for three years for an online school and now works as a social worker and candidate for licensure in marriage and family therapy for Shawnee Public Schools, which she began after earning her master’s degree at OBU in 2019.
In 2009, I was called into my first staff ministry position, serving for four years as Minister of Music and Youth at Beaver Street Baptist Church in Jenks. I also served as a communications director for an area career and technology training school district while serving bi-vocationally at Beaver Street. We departed those positions in January 2014, as the Lord called me to Oklahoma Baptist University, where I currently serve as the university's Marketing Communications Director. I was blessed to serve Mammoth several times by leading music for revival, and God then called me to join the church family in 2018 and serve as Music Minister. We are truly blessed by our church family.
Since coming to Shawnee, I have earned a Master of Theological Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. I am currently working on a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Liberty University. I passionately and completely want to serve Jesus Christ, wherever that takes me, and I am committed to follow His will for my life. We love our church and would love to have you join us in worshiping and serving Jesus together.
